Can someone help me revise my essay?Yesterday, afterschool, a couple of friends and I went to In-N-Out for lunch. After eating, my friend pointed out that fast food is like a drug. I, then, questioned him why. He told me that whenever he ate In-N-Out or any other fast food, he felt happier while eating it. Weintraub defended the fast food industry, putting all of the blame and responsibility on the parents. He notes that parents are the most influential role in a children's diet, managing their child's eating habits and exercise. Parents do have an influential role in managing their child's health, but, ultimately it is the fast food industry with its manipulating advertisement that forces our community to get an extra dose of happy meals.
I remember when I spent 5 minutes playing with my McDonalds yo-yo, rather than eating my meal. I would whine and yell so I can go to McDonalds. My dad was forced to drive me to McDonalds or else I wouldn't be quiet. Like many children, I was dragged into McDonald's audience through one of their most appealing advertisements — the toy that came with the happy meal. The food was okay, but it was the toy that won me over. In this scenario, my dad was responsible for letting me eat fast food, but it was the happy meal toy that triggered my pestering and whining. There were far better restaurants, and my parent's cooking was healthier and tastier than the Chicken McNuggets, but I was too focused on obtaining the toy that I didn’t want to go eat at any other place.
I was once a chubby boy. I was chubby until I was 8th grade. My parents enrolled me in Basketball, Tae Kwon Do, and tennis. My parents did provide me with appropriate exercise and managed my diet pretty closely. However, I was still pretty roly poly in shape. It was not until high school when I got skinny. Ironically, when my parents didn't manage my diet as closely I became more responsible and cared about what I ate and how I looked. Fast food advertisement didn't win me over anymore. When I see a perfectly stacked hamburger on the posters, and order that hamburger later on, I end up being disappointed every time. The actual burger is not perfectly stacked and the meat doesn't glow with its natural juice. Though the fast food industry lost one of its customers, there are millions out there who are still under their control. Those consumers are like puppets being manipulated by the puppet master — the large fast food industry.
The "happy" meal does make a kid happy for a few minutes, and does quiet them from constant whining and hassling to the parents. Furthermore, parents are somewhat responsible for what we eat. They can pack us lunch every day and make us play sports. However, parents do not have control over what a child sees and hear through the television, billboards, or radio. With convincing advertisements, and state of the art plastic toys, it is easy to win over a child's mind at a young age. Once they are addicted, their lifestyles are in danger. They may become obese and have other health diseases. The only cure to such an addicting drug is to ignore what the fast food industry has to offer and open your eyes and eat real, unprocessed food.
