A childhood obesity epidemic is sweeping across the country. One in three children ages 6-19 is overweight, a number that has doubled in the last decade, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Being overweight is one thing children should be warned about early. Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults, the surgeon general’s office says.

Obesity has serious health and social implications. Health problems include: asthma, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancers, high blood pressure, increased stress on bones and cartilage, sleep apnea, low self-esteem and depression. Sound scary? That’s not all. Social consequences include bullying, discrimination, harassment, isolation and violence.
The cure for this epidemic is readily at hand: eat more wisely and exercise more regularly. We need to make sure our children are being physically active for a minimum of one hour each day. A lot of them aren’t getting their exercise at school. According to the CDC, high school physical education classes have dropped to 32 percent nationwide.
And now that schools out, the risk is high that millions of children will spend a lot of their time lying around the house watching television or playing on the computer while eating chips and sweetened cereals.
One solution is to put your child in a martial arts program. The martial arts promote a healthy lifestyle, are great exercise, and they keep kids busy with a positive activity.
As a parent, you have the greatest impact on your child’s health by the choices you make every day. Here are some things you can do.
Make your house a sugar-free zone and substitute potato chips with grapes and other fresh fruits. Also, switch from soda to milk or water.
Turn off the television during meals. Take a walk together after meals a couple of times a week. Reward your kids for mowing the lawn, or washing the car or walking the dog.
A big plus would be to enroll your child in a good martial arts program. Along with exercise, karate develops self-discipline and self-control which will help them make the right decisions and choices.
Model the positive behavior for your children and it will become a normal part of their lives at home. Then when they are on their own and face unhealthy food, exercise and life choices, they will know how to resist.
Summer is the perfect time to start a healthy and active lifestyle for yourself and your entire family.
When school starts, your kids can answer the question about what they did over the summer with three simple words: We got healthy.

http:www.FatlossLifeStyle.com/blog When & How Should I Warm-Up, Stretch, Exercise, and Cool Down? I get tons of questions about this topic. There seems to be a lot of confusion about stretching. We all seem to not have enough time in the day for all that we need to do. So it is logical that most of us skip stretching. But that is a big mistake. I know it seems counter intuitive but more time not working out intensely will get you to your goals faster. You will become more flexible and lower your risk for injury. You will be able to stay more consistent to your work out schedule thus obtaining better results. The proper sequence of an intense work out should be: •Warm up •Light stretching •40 50 minutes of intense resistance training •Intense stretching the last ½ of the intense resistance session •Cool down Warm Up- It is very important to transition into an intense work out with 10 minutes of a low level cardio vascular activity. Some modes of exercise that work well are jumping jacks, jump rope, martial art kicks, squat thrust, or any full body callisthenic type exercise. However my favorite mode is power walking on the treadmill. Starting speed is nice and slow. I (I am 59) start at 3.5 mph and increase the speed by .1 mph every minute. Over the course of the 10 minute warm up I will go from 3.5 mph to 4.5 mph. could it be im a hippie or is it just me that i dont see it..?!?
(im 17)i keep being referred as “hippie”… i dont think i am. i dont know.. i live in the suburbs, i been making about 95% the clothes i wear since i am not given money to really buy new ones. i dont like asking my parents for money, they dont really count me as an expense..i dont like them spending money on me. i make most of my belongings from free stuff i find everywhere (outside, in the streets..i like making arts n crafts), i dont like spending money in stores and ect since i dont wanna be really supporting the system of “profit” which involves the abuse in factories, in lower income countries and such. i live a healthy lifestyle…both, physically and spiritually. im pretty calm and all.. yet again im an aquarius..we tend to be. i do believe in the whole “peace” thing… im not obsessed over it tho.. ehhh, i can be a bitch dont get me wrong, but its usually to my close friends as a joke tho..i never really like making people upset like that. i try to be as i came into this world to be…just a free spirited being….i just dont like being called a dirty hippie, out of assumptions! i shower as much as you probably do, and i keep my dreads really e’fin clean..they look messy and cluttered since theyre ubber decorated with stings and beads..but yet again i been inclined toward art my whole life..my hair is just another piece of art for me…muisc wise, yeah my ipod does consist of mostly anything trippy thats not techno…and alot of 60’s and sh!t, but thats only because thats the music i grew up listening too… to me im just a person who believes in beeing themselves to every extent, and not to be afraid to stand up for wat you believe… so???
